This pub has a very lovely feel to it. Well decorated, clean, classy, but most importantly with great food. I haven’t tried many Sunday roasts in UK but out of the ones I tried this was definitely my favourite. We had the super roast (3 meats and all equally tasty) which comes with a HUGE Yorkshire pudding and veggies on the side. Service was really good as well with the food arriving promptly. Next time we will definitely try the dessert.
I was excited to come here after hearing good things but I was really disappointed. Visited as a birthday celebration for my mum. Was surprised to see the restaurant so quiet. Very silent with no background music - had a weird atmosphere. I do however think this is because of people sitting outside for fireworks.
Being a vegetarian I had the bhaji burger which was so bland. Was nothing like a bhaji. Just a vegetable patty which was crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. I couldn’t even force myself to eat it. Could be improved with a lot more Indian spices and some mango chutney perhaps. I upgraded my fries to truffle and Parmesan fries which were £7 however they arrived soft and cold! Not at all crispy how fries should be. I mentioned this to the waiter who kindly got me some fresh fries. When collecting plates the waiter asked how our meal was. I’m mentioned I was disappointed with the burger to which he did apologise on behalf of the restaurant and removed this from the bill which was kind.
My parents had the haddock and chips which they thoroughly enjoyed however we were shocked that peas were charged as £4 extra. Since when does a classic dish such as fish and chips not even include peas?! Had to ask for tartar sauce to be brought out too.
We had the ginger pudding and amaretto & chocolate torte for dessert which were both delicious.
I genuinely thought the prices of the food did not match the quality. I’m a big foodie and dine around frequently. I rarely complain, send food back or even write reviews but thought it was important to give a true impression of this overhyped restaurant. Sadly won’t go back to the Fox & Goose but will return to the BakeHouse next door where I’ve been previously.
A lovely Gastro Pub with very good service, very helpful with children too. The food came out very quickly and with big portions. Very delicious food, will definitely return and will be recommending to family and friends.
We went on a Sunday and had a lovely round table in the middle of the room which meant we could all see each other and were able to talk to each other. The menu was great with lots of different options and they had a great menu for children too. Very reasonably priced and the staff were very attentive.
Not a very nice experience. Despite the good reviews!
Once we arrived we were asked multiple times by staff what our table number was - we don’t work there so had no idea as there are no numbers on there. The other waitress I don’t believe could speak English or was just plain rude, as she’d just stand there until we acknowledged her and took the drinks from her, rather than served the table.
Starters were ordered for 5 people. Two arrived. After waiting 15-20 mins for the others we had to ask where they were. At this point the first lot of starters were stone cold. The other starters arrived - but they were all wrong as the ‘specials board’ was not updated. Despite this revelation, they didn’t update it. They said there was nothing they could do. One guest has serious allergies to some ingredients and this wasn’t even considered with the wrong starters!!! Potentially very dangerous.
The mains arrived later. The turkey was dry, roast potatoes cold and bendy. The side of fries was whisked away after a few minutes after my daughter had eaten about three! As it was loud they didn’t hear us request they bring them back!
We received NO apology for any of the issues, and were then hit with a £13 charge (apparently which is only added to parties of 6+ ….. there were 4 adults and 1 child) - this really annoyed me and I requested that this and the messed up meals were removed from our bill, although in my opinion, I should also be refunded for a few other issues.
To their credit, they did honour my request, but in reality, we should not have been charged for the errors in the first place. They didn’t even attempt to correct the situation.
It’s a shame, as we’ve not been out as a family for various reasons for some ten years, and this was our experience.
I’d like to point out that I was never rude, or pushy, like some people can be. But this was a real disappointment - especially after some of our family travelling 3 hours each way to attend!
Great welcome, a glowing log fire, comfortable dining room and excellent service.
My fish was deliciously fresh with beautifully flaking flesh and super crispy batter that was an absolute delight. Thoroughly recommend...
Love this place. It's warm ams friendly and has lots of character. The staff were all lovely and attentive, and very flexible. The food was good.
Highly recommended.
My family decided to come here all together for an anniversary. Originally just for drinks but then some decided to eat. I called early
Morning on the day and spoke to a lovely lady who said they were full but could book a table for a little later than everyone was arriving but to walk in and they would try at seat us earlier. We got there at 2.15pm and they found us a table. We had 3 tables and our families were spread across different areas. Not a problem, we knew this and was happy we could eat.
We ordered one roast chicken, one roast pork, pie and mash and a starter.
The roast chicken came as a leg which wasn’t stated and the roast potatoes were rock hard like they were frozen. The pork was thin cuts of loin that was tough. The roast came with an incredibly small side dish to share full of limp carrots and other veg that were stained from sitting on top of red cabbage. My husband enjoyed his pie however it did sit swimming in a half bowlful of gravy. We were asked how the meals were and I had to be honest. I did insist that no money was taken off the bill and was just giving a review. The waitress did take some money off the bill which we appreciated however, we wouldn’t return.
Lovely pub and the outside is beautiful, just the food was disappointing.
Just stopped here for a quick lunch and have been surprised by the nice location and the good food they offer. We ordered from the Bake house menu, which has a good selection of pub standards. Try the pork crackling - they are amazing! Staff is polite, knowledgeable and quick. We will definitely come back!
